Author's Purpose/Main Idea

Here are the songs that we used in class to look for author's purpose and main idea.

Think about some of the similarities and differences that each of these four songs have.  If you would like extra credit, write me a paragraph comparing and contrasting any two of the songs.  I can't wait to see what you come up with! :)

Also, don't forget to be on the lookout for figurative language :) :) :)

Perimeter

How do you find perimeter???  You have to measure each side and add them up! That's perimeter :)

Inference

Remember that inference is like "reading between the lines". You take information from the text clues in the text and combine it with information you already know (stuff stored in your brain). When you combine these two things together and come up with a logical conclusion, you have made an inference! :)

You can practice inference with pictures. For example:  What can you infer from the following picture? Where are these children? What are they doing?  How do they feel?  How do you know?

Want to have even MORE fun with inference???

Writing Prompt: Abandoned Theme Park

We watched a video clip and saw some pictures of an abandoned theme park in Japan today. We used this as a writing prompt for the students to use their imaginations and write anything they would like about an abandoned theme park. The stories that they class wrote were fun to read. What a great bunch of imaginations!!! :) Here is the photo we used for our writing prompt:
Here is the video clip we watched: For a link to more of Michael John Grist's AMAZING photos of Dreamland, CLICK HERE.

Physical Change Song

DON'T FORGET: a physical change is a change in matter where no new substance is produced. Enjoy the song :)

Chemical Change: Elephant Toothpaste

Chemical change is a change in matter where one or more new substances is produced. Here is a SUPER FUN video clip on Elephant Toothpaste. How fun would this be to do at home??? :)
