Looking at Multiplication Models

Topic 8.2

Learning Objective:  I will understand how to estimate the product of a multiplication problem.

Solve each of the following problems in your math journal:

Array Problem-  The auditorium has 16 rows of chairs with 38 chairs in each row.  How many chairs are in the auditorium?

Number-line Problem- Ms. Wilson needs 28 inches of trim for each doll she sews.  If she makes eight dolls, how much trim does she need in all?

Set Problem- Ben emptied six bags of marbles into a basket.  There were 24 marbles in each bag.  How many marbles did Ben put in the basket?

Combinations Problem-  You have a choice of 18 ice cream flavors and six different topping flavors.  Choosing one of each, how many different combinations of ice cream and toppings can you  make? 

 How could you estimate the answer to the set problem with Ben and the marbles???
