Viewing 3-dimentional Objects

Math Topic 9.1

Learning Objective:  I will identify a 2-dimensional representation of a 3-dimensional object.

Key Vocabulary:
Net- a 2-dimensional representation of a 3-dimensional object.

Bird's Eye View-  A bird's-eye view is an elevated view of an object from above, with a perspective as though the observer were a bird, often used in the making of blueprints, floor plans and maps.

Look at the box above and answer each of the following questions on your Notability App (or on a piece of paper if you don't have an iPad):  How would the box look if you could only see the front of the box?  How would it look if you could only see the side of the box?  Only the bottom?  Only the top?  Are any of the views the same?  If so, which views?

Watch these videos to help you understand what a net is:

Here is an example of a bird's eye view:

Now GO HERE to play a 2-D matching game.

Then, GO HERE to play a game using nets.

If you have time during math centers, next,  GO HERE to play a game using 3-D shapes.  If you run out of time, remember, you can ALWAYS play these games at home.  In fact, I encourage you to play the games at home :)
