The Sneeze

Today we learned about character and setting.  We read a story about a boy named David who gets to meet some new people at his school. Ask your child who Slim was and how David felt about Slim at the beginning of the story and at the end :)

In math we continued learning different strategies for addition problems.  Your child should have a math page to do tonight and return tomorrow.  It was put into their black take-home folder. It shouldn't take them more than a couple of minutes to complete.

This afternoon we watched a video called "The Sneeze" about how germs are spread.  The kiddos loved it and wanted me to put it on the class website.  It will be linked up below.

Have a GREAT night!

Circulatory and Respiratory Systems

You should know by now that cells are the basic unit of life and that cells combine to make tissue. Tissue comes together to make organs.  Organs come together to make organ systems.  Organ systems come together to make an organism.  All of these parts rely on each other to help keep the organism alive.

Today you are going to review two important organ systems.  You will see how the circulatory system and the respiratory system are two separate systems, but they need each other in order to work properly and keep the organism alive.

Do the following in the order listed below:

1.  Circulatory and Respiratory Systems Review

2.  UTIPS Review Tests- Record your scores on your tracker!

3.  Cells and Genetics Review - Hand in when finished

4.  Matter and Earth Review- Hand in when finished

5.  Hallway Backward Review- Hand in when finished
     Hallway Backward Review Questions

6.  Classification Review- Hand in when finished

All the reviews and review test tracker will be due by April 8th.  I will give you plenty of time in class to work on them, as long as you don't waste any time, you should be able to complete them in class.  They will be considered late work if they are turned in after April 8th.

Density and Buoyancy REVIEW

Use THIS paper to complete the items below:

Let's REVIEW Density!

Density is a measurement of how solid something is. Specifically it is the mass per unit volume of a substance. If you have two objects of the exact same size (volume), the more dense object will weigh more than the less dense object.

So there are two things contributing to density:
  1. The mass of the atoms or molecules that makes up the material.
  2. The volume or amount of space the material takes up. If the molecules or atoms are “packed” in more closely, it will be more dense.
For example, styrofoam is a low density material. Even a large styrofoam container does not weigh much. The molecules in the styrofoam do not have much mass and there is a lot of space between them.

A brick, on the other hand, is much more dense. Even a moderate sized brick can be pretty heavy. This is because the molecules which make up the rock have more mass and are packed more closely together.

Density and buoyancy are closely related. A less dense substance will float on a more dense substance.

CLICK HERE for the Density Song!  Hooray for Mr. Edmonds!

Watch the Bill Nye Video and don't forget to fill out the video response sheet!
