Welcome to October!

October already? How did that happen? Every year it seems that once we get through October, that Christmas is here before we know it! I am not ready to start thinking about my Christmas shopping yet! :)

Last week we started our Unit 1 Treasures test. We did a lot of review on the MANY, MANY things that we learned over the last 5 weeks of the unit. I am excited to see the scores from the assessment. I am hoping that each student does as well as they can. It is important for me that each student finds a way to feel successful each day. Some days we will have small success. Other days we will have HUGE success. No matter how small our successes are, they are something that should be celebrated :)

Our class is in need of some supplies. If you feel that you can donate some of the needed items to our class, that would be GREAT! If you can't, no problem. Please don't feel as though you HAVE to donate. You don't. Donations are just that, donations. They are in no way required.

Here is the list:

*page protectors (for our portfolios)
*Clorox/Lysol wipes (for our desks, they get REALLY dirty!!!)
*Erasers (the kind that go on the back of pencils)
*Glue sticks
*Crayola washable markers
*Tissues (cold season is here)

I hope that each student is LOVING their 5th grade year. I know that 5th grade was my favorite year in school :)

Last Week of September!

Can you believe that this is the last week of September?  Wow!  This school year is flying by!

Just a quick reminder. . .there will be no new spelling or vocabulary words September 26-30.  We will be reviewing our entire Treasures Unit next week to get ready for our end of unit test, so no new words will be assigned.

Make sure and log on to ConnectEd  and do some of the games and different readings that have been assigned.  These will help you with your end of unit test.  Also, log on to Utah Write and PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!   I am so happy that so many of you are using ConnectEd and Utah Write at home :)  Don't forget to check out some of the other fun links on the side-bar of our class blog as well.

Our September birthdays were: Madi, Trell, Lyndsey, and Steven.  I hope that ALL of you had a FABULOUS and FANTASTIC birthday!!!  We don't have any class birthdays in October, but we have several to look forward to in November.

As always, feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have about your student or our class.

Hello!

I hope you are reading this because you have remembered to stop by our class blog and check out all of the information you can find on here.

The sidebar is LOADED with some great links to 5th grade curriculum hints and helps.  So, I want you to go and check them out.

Want to earn some extra tickets???  Well, here is what you need to do.  First, link over to at least 3 of the links on the sidebar and check them out.  Second, leave me a comment here on the blog letting me know you stopped by, and third, come tell me in class what 3 links you visited.  I will give you THREE tickets after I read your comment and after you tell me which links you check out :)

I hope you are having a FABULOUS week and a SPECTACULAR time in our 5th grade class.

Open Permissions.

I have removed the private setting on the class blog for now.  So, you will not need to login in order to view the posts.  Since we don't have any pictures on the blog and it is just general information, I figured that it was okay to have it as an open blog.  I have also had people mention that they have had issues logging on.  I want everyone to have access to the links on the sidebar so that the students can practice as much of the curriculum at home as possible :)

Once I start posting pictures, if there are any concerns, I will make the blog private again.

We had a GREAT week with science last week.  We were able to make some chemical reactions with soda and vinegar, milk and vinegar, and we also made "Flubber" (Glurox).  It was really fun to see the students reactions to these experiments!

Next week we will take our end of unit test on matter and physical and chemical changes.  We will also begin our unit on Exploration and Colonization in Social Studies.

Remember to have your student log on to Utah Write as often as possible.  This will REALLY help them with their writing this year.

Time Flies!

My goodness, time certainly does fly when you are having fun!  I cannot believe that we just  finished our third full week of 5th grade.

THANKS to all of the parents that made it to our SEP conferences.  It was so great to get to meet each one of you and have a chance to talk one-on-one for a few minutes.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns that you might have as the year progresses :)

Just an F.Y.I., there will be a SMALL homework packet next week.  Since we have a short week of school, I will give the students a smaller packet so it can be done by Friday.  REMEMBER, that does not mean a break from reading!  PLEASE make sure and read 20-30 minutes a night.  Also, make sure and get on the Utah Write website and practice your writing.

Enjoy your holiday weekend!  Be safe and have fun!
