New Week! New Spelling Words!

We are already on our second week of school! Can you believe it? If the rest of the year goes by as quickly as the first week did, we will be done before you know it!

The first official homework packet was sent home today. It will be due on Friday. Remind your student that Homeworkopoly can only be played if their packet is completed and returned.

Today in Science we learned about matter. Have your student tell you about matter and the science experiment they did with candy today. We had a great time learning about solid matter, liquid matter, and gas matter. We also learned that matter cannot be created or destroyed, but it can be changed.

We took our spelling pretest and most of the students did pretty well. However, you can never have too much practice!

CLICK HERE to link over to a fun site that will help the students study for their spelling test on Friday.  You can also access it anytime by clicking on the Spelling City link that is located on the sidebar of the blog.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Back to School Night

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to all of you parents who came to Back to School Night. We had a great turnout! We had 21 out of the 25 students with parents/guardians in attendance. We still don't know if we won the contest for the best attendance or not, but if we don't win, we will certainly be CLOSE! Thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedules to come.

It was fun for me to meet each of you. Most of the information sheets are filled out and returned, but if you still have yours I would LOVE it if you returned it as quickly as possible. They are a big help to me in getting to know your student.

My door is always open, if you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

The first three days have been FANTASTIC and I am looking forward to working with each one of the students in my class this year.

First Day!

I hope that your students enjoyed their first day in 5th grade as much as I did. Today was a day of introductions and going over our class goals for the year. We also took a math assessment. Yes, harsh. A math assessment on the very first day! The assessment will give me an idea of a starting point in math for each of the students and will not count on their grade.

We also learned about acrostic poems and each student was able to write one using their name. Their poems will be on display on the bulletin board outside our class by Friday.

Back to School Night is Wednesday from 6:30-7:30 pm. I hope to see each of you there!

If you have any questions, feel free to call the school or email me.

Thanks for letting me spend my day with your children. They were amazing! :) I am looking forward to a great year!
